A few differences Americans will discover in Poland

A few differences Americans will discover in Poland
March 25, 2016

Dear Dad, Let’s talk about the differences Americans will discover when visiting Poland and Germany. Sometimes I was a little dumbfounded when confronted with a difference because I wasn’t sure what the heck I was supposed to do, such as change the temperature of the shower water. It seems like a relatively easy task but I was half way through my shower before I realized how to change the temperature at one hostel. I found a few things to be comical, some to be annoying and others to […]

Rantings of a Tired Hostel Guest

Rantings of a Tired Hostel Guest
February 16, 2016

During my travels of Poland, I have spent sporadic days in Warsaw as it became my hub during my volunteering time with an English language center. Since my stay wasn’t continuous, I had the pleasure or misfortune of sampling several hostels, trying to find one that was satisfactory in price and features. It was a challenge!     I spent my first Warsaw stay at New World St. Hostel on Nowy Swiat. It was trying, to say the least. First off, I arrived on a late bus and followed […]

Enhance Your Berlin Experience with the Perfect Hostel

Enhance Your Berlin Experience with the Perfect Hostel
February 10, 2016

I have found the perfect hostel. Actually, it is more like a hotel, only much cheaper. This magical hostel is located in Berlin, Germany. It is The Grand Hostel. Sounds wonderful, doesn’t it? Hell yes!     Berlin was not a city I particularly wanted to visit. I’m not sure why I felt this way but I did. However, flights into Europe were considerably cheaper if I chose to land in Berlin, hence, my need for a hostel in the city. Since I was landing there, it seemed […]

Review: Roatan Backpackers’ Hostel

Review: Roatan Backpackers’ Hostel
October 21, 2015

Roatan is one of the dive capitals of the world. People come from all over the world to dive, snorkel, volunteer and be a beach bum like myself. There are numerous places to stay on the island located off the coast of Honduras. For my month-long visit, I stayed at the Roatan Backpackers’ Hostel in Sandy Bay. It is located on the north side of the island heading towards the town of West End. The thing that makes this place the best hostel to stay is the camaraderie. […]

Costs of Roatan

Costs of Roatan
July 12, 2015

Vacationing on Roatan, a Honduran island in the Caribbean, is not as inexpensive as one would think. Yes, Honduras is considered a third world country which usually translates to a more inexpensive place to travel. However, the island is not. Everything has to be imported. Transportation costs inflate the prices a lot. Regardless of the cost, would I visit Roatan again? Absolutely Yes! I spent the month of April 2015 on Roatan. Here’s what I spent. Food At the grocery store, American brand food is readily available but at […]

Have You Heard of Northern Exposure?

Have You Heard of Northern Exposure?
May 24, 2015

Do you remember the show from the early 90s called Northern Exposure? It is widely thought that the show is based on the Alaskan town of Talkeetna. Apparently, the cast visited for a short period of time and disliked the remoteness of the town. Hence, the show’s filming was moved to the Lower 48 in Washington.   Personally, I think they missed out on some amazing opportunities. Talkeetna is exactly what I imagine a small Alaskan town should look like. It is quirky and colorful. The people are friendly and […]

The Green Tortoise Hostel – Seattle

The Green Tortoise Hostel – Seattle
March 22, 2015

I lucked out finding The Green Tortoise Hostel in downtown Seattle. It’s location is great. The hostel is right next to Pike Place Market. Not only was the location ideal for the downtown junkie in me, The Green Tortoise is a clean, well-lit, comfortable place to stay. The prices are a little high but not unreasonable for Seattle. In fact, it was one of the cheapest I could find.  This was the first hostel I’ve stayed at that offered free breakfast everyday as well as free dinner three […]

Sun Hostel – Puerto Vallarta

Sun Hostel – Puerto Vallarta
February 22, 2015

Welcome to the Sun Hostel of Puerto Vallarta. I booked my stay here on HostelBookers. At the time I booked my stay, both Hostelbookers and the hostel’s website stated they were ‘sister’ hostel to The Amazing Hostel Sayulita which is where I booked my stay for Sayulita. I figured it would make the most sense.  It did until I got there and discovered the family drama. Luckily, it did not affect my reservation or stay at either hostel. I was lucky because the Sun Hostel accommodated the changes […]

The Amazing Hostel Sayulita

The Amazing Hostel Sayulita
December 12, 2014

I love The Amazing Race show so when I discovered a hostel named The Amazing Hostel in Sayulita I knew I had to stay there.  I booked my stay through HostelBookers (not intentional but my review is on the front page for the hostel at the time of writing this post).  Although my hostel experience is limited, The Amazing Hostel is exactly that its amazing.  Further hostels will be compared to this hostel.  I loved it and the area so much I added an additional 2 nights to my week-long […]

Anchorage and a Hostel

Anchorage and a Hostel
June 8, 2014

The views flying towards Anchorage completely confirmed my thoughts that Alaska is an incredibly beautiful state.  I don’t think I will ever get sick of seeing beautiful snow covered mountains. Once landing at Anchorage, I went out to explore the downtown area. Walking down the street by my hostel, I’m sure I looked like a weirdo to the locals.  I would walk, stop, stare, repeat. It was difficult not to as the mountains are amazingly big. Saturday, I walked around downtown Anchorage.  It’s a beautiful clean area.  I […]
