Bacon Donut Challenge

Bacon Donut Challenge
November 23, 2015

Bacon with donuts! Say what? What a perfect combination. Usually, bacon donuts are paired with a maple glaze which makes them tasted like pancakes with maple syrup and a side of bacon, all in one mouthful. Only the donuts are even better. I first heard of bacon donuts when I lived in Chicago. I made it my mission to find and eat as many different varieties as possible. Since I was traveling from Portland, Oregon to Portland, Maine via Amtrak, I thought, let’s eat them across the […]

Photo Obsession: Oregon Tulip Festival

Photo Obsession: Oregon Tulip Festival
November 8, 2015

Heading out on a cloudy overcast day, our destination was the Oregon Tulip Festival held at the Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm in Woodburn, Oregon. I was anxious to see the colorful beauty of the tulip farm. About 20 years ago, I had the pleasure of visiting The Flower Fields in Carlsbad, California. I was sure the Oregon field would rival the California fields in beauty and I was right. The flowers did not disappoint. I wanted to take home so many. My favorites are the orange with […]

Traveling as a Student Worker

Traveling as a Student Worker
October 7, 2015

I have been and always will be a question-asker. Sometimes you simply need to know stuff. This interview series will feature random travelers I meet that do not blog or write about their travels. They work or travel to unique places. I want to know why and what they recommend in order to follow their path. My goal is to show you how you can afford to visit exotic and alluring places without breaking the bank by sharing different ways to travel the world. Not all […]

Touring Jacobsen Salt Co.

Touring Jacobsen Salt Co.
September 30, 2015

Actually, that is a lie. We didn’t tour the Jacobsen’s facility. Instead, we visited the tasting room in Portland, Oregon. It was even better than only touring because we got to sample the product. Yeah! By we, I mean my sister, brother-in-law and me. It was so much fun!     I have a new appreciation for salt thanks to the very helpful and informative staff on hand for our visit. We were lucky enough to speak with several of the employees. The salt they harvest comes […]

Eating Portland

Eating Portland
May 10, 2015

Place: Portland. Food truck heaven. Enter my sister. The chef. You can imagine her foodie obsession. Her number one goal when visiting me in Portland was to eat her our way through the city with food trucks being top of the list.  Lets just say my sister’s food obsession really started at birth. Anyone who knows her knows this fact and loves her even more for it. (please don’t hate me from afar, sis. You know I’m your #1 fan) I’m pretty sure we gained at least 10 pounds […]

A Day at the Oregon Coast

A Day at the Oregon Coast
April 13, 2015

In March, my lovely sis and her husband trekked out to visit me in Oregon. After spending several days exploring Portland, we drove to the coast to see the ocean per my brother-in-law’s request. What a fabulous day we had! My sister, being a foodie and a chef, wanted to tour Tillamook cheese factory. So glad she did because we drove through a part of Oregon we would have missed if we had taken our original route to the beach. Our drive went through Tillamook State Forest. The […]

Portland Transportation

Portland Transportation
March 12, 2015

Every time I go to a new city I always worry about transportation. Once I have a grasp on the public transportation system, I feel safer and more secure in my surroundings. I wonder if other people have this same fear which is why I write posts about transportation and always find myself taking photos of buses, trains and subway stations. In Portland, the public transportation system is called Trimet. It has buses, light rail and street car. The street car you will only find on a loop […]

Pinots in Portland

Pinots in Portland
January 22, 2015

While in the Portland area, my plan is to try as many Pinot Noirs and Pinot Gris as my wallet will allow. While in town last week, I dropped by Thirst to try their Pinot wine flight. $17 for 4- 2 oz. pours. Biggio Hamina ’11 – meh. Light. Not so much flavor David Hill Estate ’10 – yummy. Heavy. Spice. Leather. Bold. Will try it again Purple Hands ’13– oh so good, completely opposite of the David Hill. Light, fruity, bright. A definite taste again Hayden Road […]

Donut Obsession

Donut Obsession
January 19, 2015

I am a donut addict. Yeah, I said it.  I’m obsessed with donuts.  I don’t need to eat them all the time but if I’m out walking around, it’s hard to walk past a donut shop without getting one to-go at least.  My craze for the last few years has been bacon donuts.  Have you tried them?  They are amazing at most places. Portland, Oregon Yesterday I stopped by Blue Star and got the beauties below: Maple Bacon raised donut and a Lemon Poppyseed buttermilk. They were both delicious. […]

Oregon Survival Kit

Oregon Survival Kit
December 19, 2014

This is my Oregon Survival Kit.  I carry it where ever I go because I have needed one or more of the items every day. Flashlight and umbrella are the number one priorities Phone charger – cold and altitude sucks the life right out of a cell phone battery Hat – random snow storms Dry socks – cause it rains here Flashlight – I live in the middle of the woods and walk everywhere.  It gets freaking dark.  I’ve been caught without a flashlight much to my vivid […]

Eating in Portland

Eating in Portland
November 23, 2013

I am a huge fan of lists.  In case you didn’t notice considering my blog is called The Adventure List. Making lists of places I’ve eaten while traveling remind me of memories or moments I otherwise may forget. Places where my friend and I indulged while in Portland on our first trip: The Blue Pig Cafe – delicious but closed shortly after we left Portland City Grill – upscale restaurant and bar with a great city view The Grilled Cheese Grill – food truck, one of my favorites […]

My Favorite New City – Portland

My Favorite New City – Portland
November 21, 2013

On a whim, my friend and I went to Portland, Oregon in June.  Actually, that’s a lie. She asked how I would feel about living in Portland versus Seattle when I move next year. Do I want to visit Portland and check it out?  I responded with a definite Sure, let’s go. And we did. And I’m SO glad I did.  I think this picture says it all. And if not, then the honesty this guy is demonstrating in begging for money should speak volumes for the city’s laid back […]
