Best of the #IGTravelChallenge

Posted April 10, 2016 by Tricia in IGTravelChallenge / 11 Comments

Back when I first hatched this idea to do an Instagram Challenge for the travel community, I wasn’t quite sure how it would play out. All the doubts crept in but the idea wouldn’t leave me alone. I had to make it happen. #IGTravelChallenge was born. I was lucky enough to be joined by two co-hosts who have ROCKED this challenge to the TOP!

Thank you so much to my co-hosts, Carlie from A Cajun in Cali and Hannah from Traveller Hannah!!!!! If you don’t follow these ladies, you should start NOW.

These ladies are the bomb!

Best of IGTravelChallenge

We kicked off this #IGTravelChallenge for the month of March. And WOW, the reception by the travel community was outstanding. 1,835 photos in 31 days! The photos were amazing and the stories even better. Some made me laugh, some touched my heart, others made me gasp in awe and horror at the daredevil in some of the travelers. These participants added places to many people’s bucket lists. They made me want to be a better photographer and storyteller. It wasn’t always about the best photo. Many times the photo was enhanced by the incredible story behind the photo.

If you are in need of inspiration, look up the hashtag #IGTravelChallenge and be awed!

Now what is the #IGTravelChallenge?

Each day there was a theme or topic to relate a picture. Participants were free to interpret theme as they wished. Some took the theme literal and others were more creative. Regardless, the stories were outstanding.

What’s Next for the Challenge?

We want to keep the community together and expand the creativity.

  • Once a month, we will post a theme.
  • On the 15th of each month, post a photo on Instagram.
  • OR if you have a blog, write an article with a series of photos and drop the link into your Instagram photo.
  • Use the hashtag #IGTravelChallenge

Each month, either Carlie, Hannah or myself will host a link-up for your blog posts. So make sure you drop your LINK! Show us what you got!

Follow the hashtag and fellow participants. Like, comment, share each other’s work!

We wanted to add the option of a blog post because sometimes you have multiple photos to showcase based around one theme. Tie it all together with a few words or a story. We want to read them!

Now onto some of my favorites from March:

Going/Being Home

#igtravelchallenge day 21: Going/being home – for me home is Denmark. For my girls who are now 5 and 3 and have lived in Nepal since the ages of 3 years and 7 months, it is not quite that clear. They know they are from Denmark, but they only remember Nepal as their home. When people ask them, they say they are half Danish and half Nepali😉 when we move back to Copenhagen next year, we will face a reverse culture shock 🙈 but they are bilingual (the little one is trilingual), they have seen so much of the world and speak of all their friends from Washington, China, Japan, Tibet, Nepal, Denmark, Pakistan, etc as though the world is just one big playground…which it really should be ♥️ #livingabroad #livingnepal #expatkids #thirdculturekids #thirdculturekid #travel #travelgram #travelingram #traveltheworld #travelwithkids #atrejsemedbørn #atrejseeratleve #atrejsemedsmåbørn #miniglobetrotters #littleexplorers #children #kids #childrenoftheworld #itsasmallworldafterall #familytravel #familyjaunts

  1. I loved this challenge! Thanks for featuring me at the top hahah
I actually failed this challenge since I couldn’t keep up after half way through. Some really amazing, great photos though!

  2. Thanks so much for featuring The Manini Experience! We had a blast during the challenge and look forward to participating again in the future. For those who struggling with keeping up with posting every day, check out Latergram. I scheduled all of my posts for the month ahead of time, so I didn’t have to try to decide what to post everyday. It was so easy to keep up that way!

  3. This is fantastic! I wish I had known about this sooner. I am looking so forward to participating in the Instagram Challenge for the month of April. Really love the baby crawling up the sanddunes in Saudi Arabia and the Going Home story.
