Back when I first hatched this idea to do an Instagram Challenge for the travel community, I wasn’t quite sure how it would play out. All the doubts crept in but the idea wouldn’t leave me alone. I had to make it happen. #IGTravelChallenge was born. I was lucky enough to be joined by two co-hosts who have ROCKED this challenge to the TOP!
These ladies are the bomb!
We kicked off this #IGTravelChallenge for the month of March. And WOW, the reception by the travel community was outstanding. 1,835 photos in 31 days! The photos were amazing and the stories even better. Some made me laugh, some touched my heart, others made me gasp in awe and horror at the daredevil in some of the travelers. These participants added places to many people’s bucket lists. They made me want to be a better photographer and storyteller. It wasn’t always about the best photo. Many times the photo was enhanced by the incredible story behind the photo.
If you are in need of inspiration, look up the hashtag #IGTravelChallenge and be awed!
Now what is the #IGTravelChallenge?
Each day there was a theme or topic to relate a picture. Participants were free to interpret theme as they wished. Some took the theme literal and others were more creative. Regardless, the stories were outstanding.
What’s Next for the Challenge?
We want to keep the community together and expand the creativity.
- Once a month, we will post a theme.
- On the 15th of each month, post a photo on Instagram.
- OR if you have a blog, write an article with a series of photos and drop the link into your Instagram photo.
- Use the hashtag #IGTravelChallenge
Each month, either Carlie, Hannah or myself will host a link-up for your blog posts. So make sure you drop your LINK! Show us what you got!
Follow the hashtag and fellow participants. Like, comment, share each other’s work!
We wanted to add the option of a blog post because sometimes you have multiple photos to showcase based around one theme. Tie it all together with a few words or a story. We want to read them!
Now onto some of my favorites from March:
Best Meal while Traveling
Alright so day 2 of #igtravelchallenge and it's about what's my best #travel meal. Now I make it a point to try every cuisine of the place I go but my all time favorite dish that I can't live without is from #Thailand – stir fry chicken with basil leaves. It's what the locals order when they don't know what to order. #thaifood #bangkokfoodies
At One with Nature
Day 20 of the #igtravelchallenge !! Bring Spring is today's motto! So we bring you some Spring, even if the weather here in Berlin is not that good. How is the weather where you are? ☀️ #Spring #challenge #flower #bee #instanature #nature #bringspring #flowers #naturephotography #photography #iamtb #itchyfeetsblog #naturelovers #lovenature #travel #travelblog #planet #livingplanet
#igtravelchallenge Day15: Colorful places. An obvious choice today – Burano island near Venice with fishermen's houses painted in any imaginable color. #italy #venice #veniceiloveyou #venicelife #burano #buranoisland #blue #topeuropephoto #europetravel #europe #beautifuleurope #doors #windows #houses_ofthe_world
#igtravelchallenge day 21: Going/being home – for me home is Denmark. For my girls who are now 5 and 3 and have lived in Nepal since the ages of 3 years and 7 months, it is not quite that clear. They know they are from Denmark, but they only remember Nepal as their home. When people ask them, they say they are half Danish and half Nepali😉 when we move back to Copenhagen next year, we will face a reverse culture shock 🙈 but they are bilingual (the little one is trilingual), they have seen so much of the world and speak of all their friends from Washington, China, Japan, Tibet, Nepal, Denmark, Pakistan, etc as though the world is just one big playground…which it really should be ♥️ #livingabroad #livingnepal #expatkids #thirdculturekids #thirdculturekid #travel #travelgram #travelingram #traveltheworld #travelwithkids #atrejsemedbørn #atrejseeratleve #atrejsemedsmåbørn #miniglobetrotters #littleexplorers #children #kids #childrenoftheworld #itsasmallworldafterall #familytravel #familyjaunts

Day 14 of the #IGTravelChallenge – Mountains This is another one that was super hard for us to decide on. We've seen incredible mountains in Peru, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Japan, Lesotho, and many more places. But, we had to go with a New Zealand mountain for this one. Milford Sound is one of the most surreal places I've ever been. The clouds hover over the mountains like frosting, spewing mist and creating an eerie, otherworldly feel. Waterfalls plunge down the mountainside everywhere you look. Seals sunbathe along the cliff edges while whales blow in the distance. It was one of those places I could've stayed in forever.
#IGTravelChallenge Day 19 "First Ever…" The first time I ever ordered room service and had breakfast in bed. This was on a trip that was meant to have been taken with a lover and it didn't work out. So I took the trip anyway and decided all the things I'd been waiting to do with someone, to just do them myself and enjoy it and not miss out because I had no one to do them with. I'd imagined us having room service-breakfast in bed so I just had it myself. #travel #hotel #spoilyourself #instatravel #breakfastinbed #atlanticahotels #halifax #roomservice #instatravel #travelgirl #travelingram
