What is the Chocolate Bar?
It is every chocolate lovers’ dream come true.
A buffet of only desserts!
Can you imagine? Your sweet tooth will thank you. With 100 desserts to choose from your tummy will never be so satisfied. While most of the desserts are chocolate-related, there are a few for those non-chocolate lovers. You may not get the complete experience if you don’t love chocolate, but you can sure try.
Tips for the Maximum Experience
- Don’t eat before you indulge. This way you can taste every single dessert your heart desires.
- Make sure to schedule your reservation to allow yourself enough time to fully enjoy the buffet.
- Wear your stretchy or loose pants or plan to unbutton that top jean button at some point.
- Take your time. Savor the textures and flavors.
- Make several trips up to the buffet so you can indulge in everything. Use each trip to sample from a different table. This way you won’t miss anything.
- Most important: Be a kid and forget about calories.
What They Have Available
There are several stations to the buffet. Pick the area that interests you the most for your first trip. Personally, I started with the bubble gum pink cotton candy because it reminded me of childhood. In fact, when I set it down at my table, the waiter picked it up and I practically lunged at him to get it back. I was only mildly embarrassed when I realized he was putting it upright in the sugar packet container so it stood instead of laying on the table. Oops.
In the center of the room, there are several tables laden with all kinds of small bite-sized morsels. There are multiples of everything:
- different types of mousse with snazzy drizzles of sauces,
- fudge with bacon (Mmmmm bacon, meat candy!),
- whipped cream topped puddings,
- tiny little cupcakes with light and fluffy frosting,
- melt in your mouth truffles,
- tarts with fruit or caramel or any number of fillings,
- and miniature cakes topped with painted chocolates even chocolate covered apples.
They have something to satisfy the white chocolate lover, the milk chocolate addict, and the dark chocolate connoisseur.
When you are done with the center tables, take a walk around the chef-manned tables. You can order an ice cream personalized for you. Choose between at least 11 different toppings to be mixed into either chocolate or vanilla ice cream. Then top with more toppings.
Or try a boozy crepe stuffed with chocolate or nuts or coconut and topped with berries. They will gladly make one with whatever concoction you come up with based on the ingredients of the day. I ordered a rum, coconut and almond crepe with raspberries and blackberries on the side. Oh so good.
Stop by the fresh-baked cookie station, the aroma will tantalize you. They send you back to your table with a warm cookie and a glass jug of cold milk complete with red striped straw like the 1950s. Or refresh with a cup of hot cider or hot chocolate which they call Chocolate Soup. The cider was so fragrant and delicious.
Take the chocolate experience to the next level by adding in small bowls of the salty treats. Munch on some homemade bbq chips or popcorn or roasted nuts. The salty crunch is a nice palate cleanser in between plates of chocolatey goodness.
They even offer vegan and gluten-free choices for those that must stick to a certain diet. Wait, diet and Chocolate Bar are not words that should go together. How about a certain lifestyle instead? Yeah, that sounds better. The vegan chocolate mousse topped with juicy blackberries served in a martini glass was one of my many favorites.
Not only is the food fantastic, the service is impressive. The moment you walk in the door the Langham staff make you feel special as if you are the only person they are welcoming that day. From the hostess to each server, chef, and busboy you encounter, they treat you impeccably.
After two hours of grazing, I could not stuff another morsel into my overstuffed belly. But, damn it was sure fun trying to sample every item. There were too many choices to even contemplate declaring a favorite. If I really had to choose, then I pick the mousse category. All of them!
If you are ever in Boston, indulge in the one naughty thing you must do. Eat at the Chocolate Bar!
